I really liked reading this play. It was funny and also annoying but still appealing. You kind of just want them to hurry up and get it right and leave together. It was most enjoyable to me because it was a romantic comedy. Not your typical one though. It took forever to get the romantic part right. Then again I guess that is pretty typical. I like how in the play it showed just by one simple line that a person can either be turned on or turned off by another person. It kind of tells us why we dont find Mr. perfect in the beginning. It also lets people look in as an outsider so we can see how we look sometimes when we are trying to make a friend or something more. It gives you the realization that dating is harder than we sometimes think. Meeting people and striking up casual conversation with someone can be difficult and this play reveals why. It shows that people that come from different backgrounds might have a more difficult time conversing. I love how throughout the play there are so many Awkward moments. It brought back memories when I first started dating. The feeling sucks. Instantly both people feel that if there might have been a spark between them or hint of anything at all that could have lead to a second date it dies when the awkwardness roles in.
In this romantic comedy I thought the two people or mainly Betty was too picky. Sometimes its interesting if you meet someone who is not into the same things as you. It spices it up a little. I mean if I know all about Faulkner why do I need someone else who knows all about Faulkner. This play limits variety. If either of them said one thing that wasnt in some way related to the other person they instantly lost interest in them. Its not REALLY like that either because normally people will at least pretend to be nice or interested so they avoid that awkward crap. Overall I thought the play was clever and funny.

To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time
I really enjoyed this poem.I loved how it really makes you think about life and living it while your still young. I know its so cliche to say but we are not guaranteed tomorrow. The message I personally got from this poem was to live life now and don't wait tell your too old and its too late. I mean once your seventy years old its too late to do a lot of things that you could have done when you were twenty. I think a lot of people don't realize that life is like a vapor, its here then gone. I still hear almost everyday from one of my parents or grandparent "I wish I would have done that" or my favorite "I wish I was young again". It kind of makes me sad because reality kind of sets in and you realize they cant go back in time. To me this poem was also pleasing to read. I liked Roberts use of words and they way he somehow made them work together. This poem was inspiring as well because it reminds you to live life and do things NOW. We are all aware but its nice to be reminded because a lot of us I know can get caught up with school or work and whatever else our busy schedules hold and truly forget to stop and smell the roses. Another thing is a lot of people wake up and look in the mirror and they have gray hair and there once babies are taking care of there own babies. Being young is a blessing because you have your whole life to look forward to ,but then again when your old you have your whole life to look back on and your VERY WISE. lol. That's all.

TINY men
Rite of Passage was a fun poem to read! I really enjoyed how the mom described the little men. The irony in this poem is very apparent. She speaks of the young boys in such "grown up terms". I love how she says "short men, men in first grade with smooth jaws and chins" it makes me smile because you immediately picture short little boys in suites pretending and acting older than reality lets them be. I cant get a lot of depth out of the poem but I liked how the mom looks at them in a futuristic way. She is looking twenty years down the road.
This poem did make me think about people in a way I had never thought before. I dont think this was what most people probably got from it. When you just think about everyday ordinary joes or lets say our teachers or boss's at work you dont normally think of them as being children at one time. The part in the poem when she say "They clear there throats a lot, a room of small bankers" it made me realize that everybody at once was just an innocent child that looked no further past getting a break for recess and whats for lunch. Its kind of humoring for a minute because it reminds everyone that we were once all immature and dumb.
Another thing I liked about the poem was that the mother picked her son out of the crowd as better than the rest. It was sweet not offending because every parents always thinks there kid is the best at life. I know my parents did.

Shakespeare or Moss
I absolutely loved Shakespeare's Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? This poem really had some of my emotions flowing at the end of my reading it. Besides it just being simply beautiful it was impacting. As soon as I finished reading it I thought about someone I had lost and how cool it would be to have something to always remember them by or something that could keep them alive in spirit. Not saying that's a good thing but it is in a way relaxing. When your reading it you know that he is writing about someone dear to him that had past on. The way he describes and compares them to a summers day is so comforting that it makes you fall in love with the poem. or at least I did. It was extremely romantic when he says "Thou art more lovely and more temperate" (line 2)That line let you know how sweet his feeling were towards this person he was so passionately writing about. When you read a little more into the poem you see that his darker more depressing feelings start to creep through. You know when he is mentioning there passing by him saying "Fair from fair sometimes declines, By chance,or nature's changing course (Line 8). I think he is talking about how death is just part of natures course and that is what happened. Nature took its course and took away this deeply cared about person. My favorite and most memorable piece of the poem was the end when he said " So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, so long lives this and this gives life to thee". Wow. I thought that was so well said. His point was that as long as there were living breathing people on the planet that this person would always be remembered and still living in a way because there would always be someone reading the poem. I loved that part because once I finished reading it I felt like I had helped him in exactly what he wanted. That person was remembered through the poem and they were living on even though in reality they were dead.It was all just beautiful. I felt like his intention was so successful and amazing because you see that one person can be remembered so easily as just by reading an old poem.
I didn't like Moss's Version as much. It was more cut and dry. He just seemed bitter. He was basically saying that everyone dies because we cant all stay young forever. I didn't really like how he said that "people break there necks or just drop dead" it was just so harsh. Then again I liked it in a way because it's a bit of a reality check. He is telling us that death is inescapable and it's happening no matter what. Both poems were good but I liked Shakespeare's version better because I felt like I got something from it. I mean shouldn't we at least get something out of the stuff we are reading. Maybe not, maybe we should just read it because it's required for this class. I just always thought poetry was supposed to do something for the reader. If so then I would definitely choose Shakespeare's version over Moss's. Moss's was to modern for me. I appreciated the feeling I got from Shakespeare's.
